Meet the cat rescuer of Bonita Springs
Angela Gipson tries to comfort a feral cat that was trapped so he could be neutered.
There are hundreds of feral cats in Bonita Springs and Angela Gipson is on a mission to make sure there aren’t any more.
The local resident heads up a group that traps these wild cats, gets them spayed or neutered and then returns them to where they were found. The cats live at 14 locations throughout Bonita Springs where volunteers feed them.
But now Gipson needs help. One of the people that had been feeding the cats on his property has moved and the eight cats there need a new place to live.
“We are looking for something as simple as someone with a little bit of property,” Gipson began. “A farm would be fine, a barn home, a shed, a lean to, a breezeway. Anything that gives them a little bit of shelter to stay out of the weather. Here it is mostly to keep out of the rain.”
She said it can also be someone living in a neighborhood that has time to feed an outdoor cat. The cats would have to stay in a crate under some type of shelter for about a month until they adapt to their new surroundings.
“After 30 days you leave the door open,” she explained. “It takes them that much time for them to imprint. It is not something that is done lightly because it is very hard on the cats. I don’t want people to get the impression that we will come and relocate cats. We only do it when it is a last resort.”
